The Mice

Most of Pete's sculptures have a strong, often humorous, narrative, and it's up to the viewer to fill in the bits of the story which are missing. Although real mice are mostly smelly, invasive little creatures, some of the country mice (such as the yellow necked mouse) are very pretty and attractive. We have mice around us which we call 'boxing mice', because, when the cat catches them, they don't just turn up their toes, but they are feisty and will put up their paws - if that's what mice feet are called, and fight back - box. Our last cat had several visits to the vet because the bites which he had got from a boxing mouse had become infected. So, the mice that we see in Pete's sculptures are endearing little boxing mice, who are enterprising and intelligent and willing to have a go at anything in order to get the cheese.
